Parents post a job describing exactly what they need, verified tutors apply with a message, and the parent chooses who to book. Every step is parent-controlled, and funds are held in escrow until the session is confirmed complete.

How the parent-controlled model works

When you post a job on HireATutor, you describe the subject, year level, preferred session type, location, and budget. Verified tutors who match your criteria receive a notification and can apply with a personalised message. You review their profiles, qualifications, and verification status, then confirm the booking. The tutor cannot contact you or access your personal details until you initiate the conversation.

Escrow payment protection

HireATutor holds all payments in escrow — the tutor is not paid until the session is confirmed complete. If you raise a dispute before the session is marked complete, funds are frozen and reviewed by our admin team. This model protects parents from paying for sessions that don't meet expectations and gives tutors confidence that they will be paid for work they complete.

Contact information restrictions

HireATutor's messaging system automatically blocks the exchange of personal contact details (phone numbers, email addresses, social media handles) before a booking is confirmed. This prevents tutors from soliciting off-platform arrangements that would bypass the platform's safety and payment protections. Once a booking is confirmed, contact restrictions are lifted for that specific conversation.

Why parent control matters for child safety

A parent-controlled marketplace means parents are the decision-makers at every step — they choose who to invite into their home, they confirm the booking, they mark the session complete, and they leave the review. What happens if I am not happy with the session?

If you are not satisfied with a session, you can raise a dispute before marking it complete. Funds are held in escrow and will not be released to the tutor until the dispute is resolved. HireATutor's admin team reviews disputes and can issue a full or partial refund depending on the circumstances.

Can I see a tutor's verification status before booking?

Yes. Every tutor's profile shows their verification status — whether their child safety check has been verified, whether they are a VIT/NESA/QCT-registered teacher, and whether their references have been contacted and approved. You can filter search results to show only fully verified tutors.

Is there a fee to post a job on HireATutor?

No. Posting a job is free for parents. HireATutor charges a 10% commission on completed sessions, which is deducted from the tutor's payment. Parents pay the full session rate and receive the full session — there are no hidden fees or booking surcharges.
